The Problem

The Cheese production facility needed to install a wastewater treatment system to reduce the BOD, TSS, ammonia and phosphorus from a commingled process water stream generated during cheese and dairy production for compliance with a NPDES (surface water) Discharge Permit.

The Solution

bioprocessH2O supplied a bioPULSE™ Airlift Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) incorporating the energy efficient airlift external tubular and back-washable membranes. Permeate from the MBR treatment process meets and exceeds the permitted effluent limits for discharge to a fresh water stream.

The Results

The bioPULSE™ MBR has proven effective at reducing the BOD, TSS, ammonia and phosphorus from the dairy process water to meet effluent discharge requirements. To learn more check out our article: how to reduce BOD in wastewater
